Oceaneering - News - September 9, 2004

Petro-Canada contracted Pro-Dive Oceaneering (PDO) and Oceaneering Intervention Engineering (OIE) to provide an engineered solution for relieving pressure between the surface casing and production casing in a single production well and also to offer a method for continual annular pressure monitoring in situ. The unusually fast-track tooling project was successfully completed in less than 5 weeks, including onsite engineering support, and resulted in the well returning to production for the Customer.

OIE designed, qualified, fabricated and fully tested the tooling on a full-scale wellhead/conductor mockup that featured removable components including a purpose built, removable sealing plug. The custom plug is designed to seal at pressures up to 5000psi. The design solution also included installation of a custom ROV panel plumbed to the sealing plug to permit venting of the annular space. Oceaneering Hydra® Magnum ROV systems performed the work from a drilling rig. This is believed to be the first intervention of its kind worldwide.
