SMD Hydrovision - News - November 9, 2004

Van Oord ACZ choose CURVETECH for upgrade of Rockdump ROV

Dutch dredging and marine contractor Van Oord ACZ have placed a contract with SMD Hydrovision for the midlife upgrade of the Tertnes ROV III - 22 Tonne Rockdump ROV. The ROV’s primary role is precise delivery of rock via a flexible fall pipe system to a depth of 1000msw.

The Curvetech “Building Blocks” under scope of supply include upgrade of the existing control system with SMDH’s new IVECS control suite. At the surface IVECS incorporates a wireless remote ROV control panel as well as touchscreen technology with graphical feedback of ROV functions, diagnostics and power management. Subsea the system consists of a central control pod and associated umbilical termination/survey connection junction boxes and harnesses. In addition the upgraded ROV will utilize Curvetech multi-function intelligent valve packs for control of thrusters and hydraulic functions.

Complete change out and integration of the Curvetech components on Tertnes is being carried out by SMD Hydrovision in the first quarter of 2005.

Contact Mark Collins for further information on Curvetech IVECS control systems and hydraulic building blocks.
